The most common dangers include\u00a0driving,\u00a0grilling, and\u00a0firework accidents&#8230; and since we are a beach community,\u00a0water activity\u00a0is also a serious threat.<\/p>\n<p>Important Facts to know:<br \/>\n1. More people die in\u00a0motor vehicle crashes\u00a0on the July 4th\u00a0than any other day of the year?<br \/>\n2. July is the peak month for\u00a0grilling-related fires. On average, 8,800 home will catch fire.<br \/>\n3. Two-thirds of the 13,000 fireworks-related injuries each year happen around the Fourth of July and 69% will required E. R. treatment).<\/p>\n<p>Ed Cantu Insurance Agency wants you and your family to enjoy your 4th\u00a0of July celebration so please follow these vital safety tips on your holiday and for the rest of your Summer. \u00a0And remember to call us when you and your family need protection.<\/p>\n<p><strong>DRIVING AND HIGHWAY SAFETY-<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>\u2022 The obvious one: Don\u2019t drink and drive. Please. Just Don\u2019t.<br \/>\n\u2022 Stay diligent with the basics (watch your speed, seat belts, blind spots, etc.)<br \/>\n\u2022 Stay alert, especially at night. There are drunk drivers out there.<br \/>\n\u2022 Minimize distractions like loud music, your phone or a car full of friends.<br \/>\n\u2022 Drive cautiously on rural roads.<br \/>\n\u2022 Avoid drivers that appear agitated or distracted.<\/p>\n<p><strong>GRILLING AND BAR B QUE SAFETY-<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>\u2022 Never leave your grill unattended<br \/>\n\u2022 Keep intoxicated people away from your grill.<br \/>\n\u2022 Keep a fire extinguisher nearby and let everyone know where it is and how to operate it.<br \/>\n\u2022 Don\u2019t move the grill once it is lit.<br \/>\n\u2022 Keep children and pets away from the grill.<br \/>\n\u2022 Operate your barbecue on a level surface, away from your house, garage and landscaping.<br \/>\n\u2022 Protect the cook with a heavy apron and gloves that reach high on the forearm. Use very long-handled utensils designed for barbecuing.<br \/>\n\u2022 Use only lighter fluid designed for grilling when charcoal grilling. Never use gasoline or other flammable liquids, and never add more lighter fluid once the fire has started.<br \/>\n\u2022 Wait until the grill is cooled before storing or covering. When you\u2019re done cooking, remember that the grill will remain hot for a while.<br \/>\n\u2022 Soak charcoal briquettes with water to ensure they are cool and inactive before throwing them away.<\/p>\n<p><strong>FIREWORKS SAFETY-<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>Leave Fireworks to the professionals\u00a0and \u00a0if you choose to use them yourself, please follow these tips!<br \/>\n\u2022 It is against the law to use fireworks within most City limits so\u00a0make sure they are legal in your area.<br \/>\n\u2022 Be sure to read and follow instructions.<br \/>\n\u2022 Don\u2019t give fireworks to small children.<br \/>\n\u2022 Light fireworks on the ground in a fire resistant area.<br \/>\n\u2022 Keep a fire extinguisher nearby and always wear eye protection.<br \/>\n\u2022 If a firework is a \u201cdud\u201d, do not attempt to relight it.<br \/>\n\u2022 Upon disposal, douse the shells in water and throw them away.<br \/>\n\u2022 Store fireworks in a dry place, away from children and animals.<br \/>\n\u2022 Never attempt to disassemble or make your own fireworks.<br \/>\n\u2022 Never throw or point fireworks at any one or anything.<\/p>\n<p><strong>PROTECT YOUR PETS-<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>Don\u2019t forget our furry friends. Did you know that July 5th is the busiest day of the year for animal shelters? Unlike people, pets don\u2019t associate the noise, flashes and burning smell of fireworks with celebrations and a good time. Pets are terrified of fireworks and often panic at the loud whizzes and bangs they produce. Help your Pets by doing the following:<br \/>\n\u2022 Keep your pets indoors and turn up the TV or radio volume to reduce the firework noise.<br \/>\n\u2022 Don\u2019t take them to a Fireworks Display.<br \/>\n\u2022 Have your pet properly identified in case they get out.<\/p>\n<p><strong>BEACH AND WATER ACTIVITY SAFETY-<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>July is one of the hottest months of the year so many families turn to water activities to beat the heat. Have fun and remember that water activities have serious risks when you aren\u2019t careful.<br \/>\n\u2022 Review safe boating practices.<br \/>\n\u2022 Never consume alcohol while driving a boat.<br \/>\n\u2022 Before boating, always check that there are enough life preservers on hand for every passenger.<br \/>\n\u2022 Set water safety rules for your family.<br \/>\n\u2022 When at the beach, lake or river, never swim alone and pay attention to posted warning signs.<br \/>\n\u2022 Pools should be enclosed completely with a fence to restrict access to the area.
